I believe I've written about the Peace Gathering before, but felt I'd like to do so again, as the nature of this most recent one seemed to call for it.
I had only started going during about the last year and a half after meeting and befriending the guy that puts it on, but it goes back to 2003. Unfortunately, this was the last of the Peace Gatherings (albeit perhaps in the way that the Rolling Stones have had their "last" concert tour more than once). That being the case, it was akin to the farewell episode of a beloved tv show, with long-absent participants returning one last time to see it out. It was rather interesting for me to meet such people and to see the place where it began.

Back To The Ballpark
Got back to Dodger Stadium for the first time in forever. I don't think I had been there since the few games I made in April. This was a series against Arizona, so I was torn, as always. Next is the Phillies, which is simpler emotionally. I'll be there tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Should be fun.
Tomorrow is also Toastmasters, and I will be providing Table Topics. This will be important since we will have only one scheduled speech. Then, Friday, it's the Peace Gathering, which is always a very good time.

Weekend Activities
From Friday through Sunday, I kept reasonably active. Friday was my friend's Peace Gathering, which was heavy with some very enjoyable music and just a bit of pleasant conversation. As usual, there was some delicious food to nourish the body after doing so for the mind and soul.
On Saturday, I meant to work on my speech, but couldn't refuse the same friend's offer of coming along to a church function, which was fascinating, and was followed by more food. Of course, the line was prodigious, but that's to be expected. It was a gathering of people mainly of Persian descent, which might threaten some, but I always welcome experiences with the new and unfamiliar.
Yesterday, I just went to Mass, which was pretty good. A guest priest from Kansas City advocated for a charity program to aid the poor and elderly in some developing nations. Tonight, it's coffee with a friend and improv on a new night. Tuesday, I give a speech at Toastmasters. Usually that's on Thursday, but this week and I think next also, it's on a different night to accomodate Warner Brothers' need for our usual meeting spaces on Thursdays.

Friday Night
I believe I've written in the past about my friend's monthly peace gathering. Well, that came around again Friday. I would have been going to see the Dodger's second exhibition game at Dodger Stadium, but was already planning on attending the peace gathering, and so gave Friday's tickets to the post office worker who was so helpful in making sure I got the package of tickets that had been sent to me in the mail.
Each Peace Gathering features a guest performer. Last month was a poet who works for a hospice down in San Diego (or is he a hospice worker who write poetry?). This month's performer was a wonderful singer-songwriter with a lovely, throaty singing voice. It was my intention to read a passage from Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer, which I am reading currently, but the opportunity did not present itself. I suppose that next month will be just as good a chance to do so. It was written in 1934, and will probably still hold up in May.
Here at the household, I said goodbye to the video tape deck which had been a guest here next to my computer for a number of weeks. I had borrowed it for work purposes, and had "gotten accustomed to its face", so to speak. I will miss it.

The Peace Gathering
Last night I participated in an event known as a peace gathering. It's a religious gathering based on the principles of the Bahá'í faith which occurs each month and is put on by a friend. Poetry and excerpts from religious texts are read, music is performed, and people offer insights on life. I myself offered a quotation from Aeschylus' Agamemnon.
Not to get sidetracked, but I have misgivings about quoting and reading the work of others. I feel it's my privilege to enjoy it, but I also feel that it's my responsibilty to offer something of my own. That being said, I did quote Aeschylus last night and regularly quote favorite song lyrics and other works regularly on this very blog, so I guess I have to come down on the side of it being all right in moderation.
