In The Big Time

I have had more and more opportunities for performance in recent times. Naturally, these performances have been of a humble nature, and so the venues and accommodations have likewise been rather modest. One becomes accustomed to relatively little in the way of stages, crowds and other things, so it's really something when it's anything more than the auditorium of a church. Just such an occurrence transpired lately, and I felt compelled to share it.

We had already performed a comedic sketch two times a couple of weeks before, both at conventional church locations. One was superior where such things as the backstage are concerned, but neither could hold a candle to one of the places we performed in the other day. This was a legitimate theater rented out for services, and it looked every inch the grand older theater. It was lavishly decorated and boasted an impressive balcony. I could have imagined the Muppet Show taking place there.

Neatest of all was the green room, which deserved such a designation. Available to us were two bathrooms, two changing rooms, plush furniture, a flat screen TV, plush furniture, a shower and refrigerator. It was entertaining to muse about what acts engaged in which debauchery right where we were. We really just just used the first three things, having little time for the others, but I resolved to bring my toiletries in future for a gratuitous shower. It's really the principle of the thing more than needing to clean up.

I'm afraid I may be ruined for any lesser performance venues at this point, having luxuriated in such digs for our funny little sketch. Perhaps this will serve as motivation to work sufficiently so that I may become accustomed to something of the kind or better on a permanent basis. I will surely do bigger things in significantly smaller theaters, but it could only be in service of restoring myself to the grand palaces merely for the privilege of mopping the bathrooms. Boy, that place was nice.
